An opportunity to fully reveal your talents

Despite its compact size and lightweight, the alpha 7c mirrorless digital camera offers the same excellent photo and video quality as full-frame models. With wide, stable, and fast AF, high-speed burst shooting, and an easy-to-use tilt-angle LCD monitor, you can capture any action, anywhere.

Sony alpha 7c and design

The body of the new full-frame camera feels very sturdy and reliable, thanks in large part to the monocoque (one-piece) magnesium alloy construction. The digital film camera is equipped with a touch screen to help you adjust the focus points, the touch screen is not available in the menu. The viewfinder is compact – 1cm OLED panel with 0.59x magnification, however, the overall compact size of the camera must be taken into account. Sony Alpha a7C supports external microphones via 3.5mm or hot shoe. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack, a slot for a UHS-II SDXC memory card, a micro HDMI video output, as well as a USB-C port for data transfer, charging and connecting a webcam. The camera is weatherproof and rugged, making it suitable for outdoor use, and its ports are hidden behind waterproof flaps.

Matrix and photo quality

In terms of photo quality, the Sony a7C is almost identical to the a7 III because it uses the same sensor – a new version of the 24.2 MP5 Exmor R ™ CMOS sensor is backlit and used with the latest BIONZ X ™ image processor. Thanks to the full-frame sensor, you can capture stunning images never before possible with a camera of this format. The α7C’s sensor is twice the size of the same size APS-C cameras, and 30 times the size of a smartphone. This provides excellent and detailed images.

The mechanical shutter makes a noticeable sound, with more audible clicks than the larger a7. Flash sync is not the fastest: 1/160 second, maximum speed – 1/4000 second. The Sony a7C is capable of shooting at 10 frames per second and does so for a long time. The device is capable of capturing 84 pairs of Raw + JPG, 118 Raw or 224 JPG.

For autofocusing in the Sony α7c, a system of 693 phase focusing points located directly on the matrix is responsible. They cover 93% of the frame area – competitors never dreamed of such a thing. The phase sensors are assisted by 425 contrast AF areas. Thus, the system is hybrid. The autofocus system also received an eye-tracking function (including in continuous mode), and priority recognition of faces, and other fine settings. Autofocus sensitivity goes up to EV-3, which is an impressive figure for today’s cameras. Even in the fully automatic mode of the focusing system, the result is excellent. The camera accurately recognizes the main subject in the frame and gives it priority. There is a possibility of separate adjustment of points and areas of autofocus for horizontal and vertical orientation of the frame,

Working at high ISO

The standard ISO range has been expanded to 100-51200 (up to ISO 50-2048007 for still photography), while detail-transfer and local noise reduction technologies ensure superior image quality. With excellent performance in the medium to high sensitivities, you can shoot at high ISO without noise or distortion in the image. The frames saved in Raw are almost the same as with the a7 III. With this, there is noticeably more clarity and grain compared to JPG, and with the same exposure settings. Detail is excellent up to ISO 51200, grain appears at higher values.

The proven Sensor-Shift Image Stabilizer is still here. It is still capable of stabilizing camera shake in five axes, as well as working in conjunction with a lens stabilizer. However, in the third series of “sevens” its efficiency was increased and is now declared at the level of 5 stages of exposure.

Video recording

The feature set is roughly the same as a7 III. There are 4K UHD at 24 or 30 fps, 1080p at 120 fps for slow motion, and multiple color profiles. In addition to the already familiar S-Log2 and S-Log3, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) is supported for shooting in HDR. The camera also implements the S&Q mode, in which you can take both slow-motion and accelerated shooting (shoot time-lapses).
