What is the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO)?

International Mathematics Olympiad(IMO) is one of the many tests held by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), founded in 1999. It is situated in New Delhi, India.This evaluation is organized by SOF on behalf of the International Science Olympiad(ISO), which coordinates this academic event for students worldwide.

It first originated in Romania in 1959 and is held annually every year. It has two rounds, Level 1(National Level) and Level 2(International Level).

Olympiads are organised for other subjects as well, namely :

  •  Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  •  General Knowledge (GK)
  • English
  • Commerce
  • Computer Science

For how long are these exams conducted?

The duration of these exams is 3 days throughout the country. Schools have a choice to conduct these exams in any of the given date slots.

Who is eligible to participate?

Anyone from classes 1-12 can take part in this assessment. Level 1 is meant for all classes 1-12, but Level 2 is only for classes 3-12. Whoever clears Level 1 goes on to contest internationally for Level 2.

What do the students get in return?

What is the paper pattern like?

The marking scheme for classes 1-4 is a little different than what is pre-determined for classes 5-12.

  1.   Study material: For students of class 4, revising the concepts from their school books would be more than enough. It would also be very beneficial that they acquire a few useful fast calculation techniques in the form of Vedic Maths. It enhances one’s mental calculation abilities to a great extent.
  1.   Proper Guidance: Help from a tutor will certainly aid a student to go through the question paper deftly. He/she can help the student greatly if they have experience in taking the exam and have an excellent knowledge of aptitude themselves.
